R.E.M. has been one of my favorite bands since 1983, when I saw them on late-night TV, when I was in the 2nd grade (my mom let me stay up late sometimes). I fell completely in love with them when the album Green came out, and got to know their albums one by one, the newer ones as they were coming out, and the first two late indeed, when I was in college. I'm glad I got to wait so long to discover Murmur and Reckoning. They're so good, and I'm glad I got to experience their magic for the first time as an adult.
I've seen them twice, once at a hockey arena in St. Paul, and once at a minor-league ballfield, also in St. Paul. Both post-Bill-Berry. Both, nonetheless, incredibly good shows.
I'm about to go on a long road trip. The whole route has pretty good rest stops. Rest stops are great!
